Colour Groups

One option that you can do with your class when arranging them into groups is to assign colour groups. This works well if the desks are already arranged into pods or the students are going to be sitting at large tables. Before the students arrive label each group of desks or tables with that groups colour. Rather than just numbering students off or placing them into specific groups organized by you, you can take coloured pom poms, marbles, Popsicle sticks, etc. and put them into a bag or envelope. Have the students line up before they come into the classroom and as they enter the room they pick an item out of the bag or envelope that you have. The students then find the table that has the corresponding colour to their item and that is their group.
